Program Director
Hi! My name is Shayla Van Alstyne, and I'm a freshman at the College of the Holy Cross. I'm part of the Teacher Education Program and double-majoring in Sociology and Spanish. I have two younger sisters. The youngest, Julia, has been part of the Volt community for 3 years and recently earned her black belt!
Back in high school, I was an after-school and summer camp counselor at the JCC for three years. In my senior year, I got the opportunity to be a classroom intern at Hamilton Elementary in Schenectady. During my winter breaks, I get to work as a sub in Niskayuna elementary schools.
In my free time, I enjoy staying active and listening to country music. I love any opportunity to interact with kids, and I plan to be an elementary teacher when I graduate!
